Middle East Crisis: U.S. fails to defend its Interests
It is a shame that in moments of crisis American leadership does not take decisive steps to safeguard its own interests. The U.S. does not have to abandon Israel to defend its other interests in the region, all it has to do is use its enormous leverage to ensure that Israel’s policies are moderate and prudent and safeguard both Israeli and American interests. Dear Dr. Muqtedar,
I’m an ‘international studies’ student at Ohio State. I’ve been following the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East (like everyone else). What do you think about the current geopolitics of the region? I’m currently researching what type of political/economic ties the Arab countries in the region hold firm to; Syria, Iran, Iraq, Jordan? With the current crises these states are facing, how can we predict what role these states might play in the near future?
Dr. Muqtedar Khan,
I think in an on-going Middle East crisis we have to blame Israel and the United States.
There is nothing condemnable in hijacking Israeli soldiers-terrorists by Hizbollah and Hamas whereas Israel does the same, kills indiscriminately Palestinians and Lebanese.
Isreal is a rogue stae like America. Muslims shoud strive their best to wipe off Israel, illegitimate, draconic, racist and terrorist state. I hope you will be on the right side and support my point. But it is not going to be easy for you since you work for th Zionist funded Saban Center at Brookings.
You said in your article that you do not blame Israel since it pursues security and its interests in the region. No threat as such comes from neighbour Arab countries.
Isreal is itself a factor of instability in the region. It is the only nuclearized country of the region thus threating survival of others. So as to balance Israel's endless ambitions Iran should get nuclearized as soon as it can to stop World War III. But it seems the Big War is inevitable. Muslims will clash with Zionist-Neoconservatives as Prophet Muhammad's (Pbuh) prophecy tells us. Jews (zionists)will be wiped off, inshaAllah.
Yo Muqtedar Khan Why you so dark skinned? Oh yeah I know why you're a fucking indian You ain't a real muslim. Real muslims are Arabs who are light skinned tall warriors Not some short ugly ass darkskinned south indian
I don't agree that the muslim population is going to explode due to Israels invasion of Lebanon. The main reason being: muslim countries are divided.
Egypt and Jordan have peace treaties with Israel, don't blame non-arab muslim countries for that gotti.
I can not belive that the U.S. has remained inactive in stopping this most recent conflict. They still have yet to realize the huge opportunity to relinquish support from the Middle East, by condemning Israel and putting them in their place. We do have the power to stop this. We claim to be the bggest advocator for peace, democracy, and human rights but this is clearly not the case. Israel has always been the instigator and the most destabilizing state in the Middle East, yet we continue to support them. But Why? Please answer this. They are a hindrance to our foreign policy and overall peace in the region. We need to remind them that they rely on our support and not the other way around. I guess it just shows how selfish and hypocritcal the U.S. and Israel really are. All we really care about is the safety of U.S. citizens. Where is the empathy for the Lebanese and the Palestinians? We are ignoring the unrestrained war crimes that are happening right in front of our eyes such as the killing of innocent citizens and the destruction of vital infrastructure. Who is going to help pay for the reconstruction of Lebanon and Gaza when this is is all over? I have a feeling that it is not going to be Israel. And what ever happened to the Just War Theory that we supposedly follow, specifically the proportionality clause? Is Israel exempt? I hope the international community wakes up for the Palestinians and Lebanese sake. Bottomline is that the status quo for supporting Israel has hurt our interests as well as the reigon's and I hope we we use everything in our power to change it.
And this is for Gotti: I hope you do not call yourself a Muslim. If you do, you are seriously mistaken if you think skin color matters. What matters is submission to Allah. This man has done more for Islam than you could do in 1000 lifetimes. The sooner you realize this the better. So until then, shut the fuck up you punk bitch.
Dr. Khan,
I couldn't agree more with you that the United States has to show more rapid decisiveness when a situation like this occurs in the region in order to safeguard its own interests. I do wonder, however, what your opinion is, if any, in regards to Iran's role in this predicament? There are several theories about how Iran and Syria are behind all of this. I personally do not see any validity in those accusations when it comes to Syria but what of Iran's? Clearly they are trying to exert more influence in the region but how much? I am curious about your thoughts.
Dr. Khan
please comment on the following
the bush administration acuses syria and iran of supporting hezbollah....but the weopons to isreal from usa keep on coming...isn't that a contradition...hezbollah cannot have support from anyone against a terrorist organization(yes, isreal is a terrorist organization, there is no justification of killing innocents in qana and others, the socalled collateral damage out weighs the military casualities in lebanon), yet this war criminal is allowed aid from USA and britain its ONLY allies in a repeated chapter in the history of middle east.
my views-
this is the start of a long war...once the arab/muslim countries decided enough is enough...american and israel will be in for the shock of their life....its a shame that the muslim countries are not united and squable over sectarian problems while american policy really exploits it.
one more thing....
hamas was ELECTED DEMOCRATICALLY
two members of the lebanon parliment are Hezbollah and were ELECTED DEMOCRATICALLY
the bush administration has no right to talk about democracy...democracy to the US and Britain means any nation that serves their own interests....
Everybody hates muslims.Nobody likes them. They do not want to see anybody called a muslim on this planet.May be,they will keep a few people like you for the zoo and the mueseum.
I think it's all started by the Nazis... they try to
Probably the nazis started it all. The relocation of the European Jews to the Israel by the US causes tension between the Arabs and the Jews which has not been resolved till today.
